My sister, Sue Ruch, lived on Deer Isle for 15 years and knew MIchael. Here are her thoughts: He was a good friend for most of the time I lived on Deer Isle. We got to know each other through my involvement with the high school, Cabin Fever Theater, mutual friends. Every year he bugged me to run for the school board and we’d put our heads together to encourage others to run. I knew within hours he had succumbed to a massive heart attack and felt very sad. I also know his wife well and Megan, his older daughter. She is the co-owner of the 44 North coffee business and married to Ferrell Rupert–Julia’s and Emily’s heartthrob that one summer long ago. He was one of the best human beings you would ever want to know–a blow for the island and many others he touched.
