Thursty was secretary of the Class of 1942, seemingly forever. For years, we editors marveled at how he adapted to the technological advances of submitting class notes; we later learned his dear daughters, Marjorie and Sarah, were doing all the typing. But the outreach to classmates and warm, lovely correspondences were 100 percent Thursty. He’d visit the magazine offices any time he was in for a reunion, initially making his way up to the fourth floor of Hopkins Hall alone and later with his daughters’ help. Always with a twinkle in his eye, a sweet smile, a story to tell and kind words for his “beleaguered” editors. He often sent us photos he had taken, which he mounted on card stock, with a caption and lovely message written carefully in his distinctive handwriting in white paint marker. He is greatly missed.
